Matthew 4
Here is Satan tempting Jesus, Matthew 4:9: “And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me. Then saith Jesus unto him, ‘Get thee hence, Satan.’”
Step back! I wrote in my margin here: what we worship takes control of our lives. And it’s really annoying and funny how Satan quotes scripture to Jesus, trying to use the Bible against him. Which so doesn’t work. Quotes it right back at him. Satan please get a life, do you really think you can bring Jesus down?
Jesus to the disciples: “And he saith unto them, ‘Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.’” Matthew 4:19 My notes say, "The difference between catching fish and men is when you catch fish, they are alive and die, but when we catch men for Him, they were dead and brought to life." I wrote that down while listening to a speaker with my husband at an FCAP conference, the Fellowship of Christian Airline Personnel.
Matthew 5
My favorite of the “beatitudes:” “Blessed are the poor in spirit…blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake. Rejoice, and be exceeding glad; for great is your reward in heaven, for so persecuted they the prophets that were before you.” Matthew 5:3,11,12
“But I say unto you, that ye resist not evil, but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also…But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you.” Matthew 5:39, 44
Matthew 6
Three times in chapter 6 Jesus says, “take no thought for your life,” also translated “do not be anxious.”
Matthew 10
“Think not that I am come to send peace on earth, I came not to send peace, but a sword.” Matthew 10:34. To convict people they need Him I am thinking. He's not coming to tell us everything is awesome, keep up the great work.
Matthew 11
“Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me: for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” Matthew 11:28-30
Matthew 12
“He that is not with me is against me, and he that gathereth not with me scattereth abroad.” Matthew 12:30
“But whosoever speaketh against the Holy Ghost it shall not be forgiven him.” Matthew 12:32
“For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies: these are the things which defile a man.” Matthew 12:19
Matthew 16
“For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it. For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?” Matthew 16:25,26
Matthew 18
“Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven. Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven.” Matthew 18:3,4
“Moreover if thy brother shall trespass against thee, go and tell him his fault between thee and him alone.” Matthew 18:15
“So likewise shall my heavenly Father do also unto you, if ye from your hearts forgive not every one his brother their trespasses.” Matthew 18:35
Matthew 19
“And he said, for this cause shall a man leave father and mother and shall cleave to his wife, and they twain shall be one flesh” Matthew 19:5
“Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me, for of such is the kingdom of heaven.” Matthew 19:14
“There is none good but one, that is God; but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments.” Matthew 19:17
“With God all things are possible.” Matthew 19:26
Matthew 20
“Whosoever will be great among you, let him be your minister: And whosoever will be chief among you, let him be your servant.” Matthew 20:26,27
Matthew 21
“And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive.” Matthew 21:22
Matthew 22
“Jesus said unto him, ‘Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.” Matthew 22:37-40
Matthew 23
“Whosoever shall exalt himself shall be abased, and he that shall humble himself shall be exalted.” Matthew 23:12
Matthew 24
Talking of the second coming here:
"For as the lightning cometh out of the east, and shineth even unto the west; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be....and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory." Matthew 24:27, 30
Matthew 25
"Well done, thou good and faithful servant; thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things; enter thou into the joy of thy lord." Matthew 25:21
"Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me." Matthew 25:40
