Now we cruise into the book of Jeremiah, whose name means “sent forth by the Lord.”
Talking about what’s gonna go down if the people don’t stop their rebellion to God:
“And their houses shall be turned unto others, with their fields and wives together, for I will stretch out my hand upon the inhabitants of the land, saith the Lord. For from the least of them every one is given to covetousness: and from the prophet even unto the priest every one dealeth falsely. They have healed also the hurt of the daughter of my people slightly, saying Peace, Peace: when there is no peace. Were they ashamed when they had committed abomination? Nay, they were not at all ashamed, neither could they blush: therefore they shall fall among them that fall: at the time that I visit them they shall be cast down, saith the Lord. Thus saith the Lord, Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein and ye shall find rest for your souls. But they said, ‘We will not walk therein.’” Jeremiah 6:12-16
That above is kind of a downer but good reminder that God don’t play.
More spankin’s from Jeremiah for us:
“Yet they hearkened not unto me, nor inclined their ear…” as in, they would not listen. Jeremiah 7:26
“But thou shalt say unto them, this is a nation that obeyeth not the voice of the Lord their God, nor receiveth correction, truth is perished, and is cut off from their mouth.” Jeremiah 7:28
And then he talks again about therefore he will smite them and take away their wives and their fields and woop up on them for this.
“But let him that glorieth glory in this, that he understandeth and knoweth me, that I am the Lord which exercise lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness, in the earth, for in these things I delight, saith the Lord.” Jeremiah 9:24
“This evil people, which refuse to hear my words, which walk in the imagination of their heart…they would not hear" (listen.) Jeremiah 13:10,11
“Every one walketh after the imagination of his own heart….they shall return to me with their whole heart.” Jeremiah 23:17, 24:7
“Yet ye have not hearkened unto me, saith the Lord…. Ye have not heard my words.” Jeremiah 25:7,8
Okay here is one of my very favorite verses: “Behold, I am the Lord, the God of all flesh: is there any thing too hard for me?” Jeremiah 32:27
I love that nothing is too hard for Him. If our circumstances seem impossible, we can take comfort that nothing is too hard for the Lord.
“And I will make an everlasting covenant with them, that I will not turn away from them, to do them good, but I will put my fear in their hearts, that they shall not depart from me. Yea, I will rejoice over them to do them good, and I will plant them in this land assuredly with my whole heart and with my whole soul.” Jeremiah 32:40,41
