Deuteronomy 4
“Only take heed (also translated ‘be careful’) to thyself, and keep thy soul diligently, lest thou forget the things which thine eyes have seen, and lest they depart from thy heart all the days of thy life; but teach them thy sons, and thy sons sons.” Deuteronomy 4:9 I just noticed for the first time the other day that this passage above says to teach the way’s of God to your grandchildren, as in your son's sons. That’s cool because I wonder sometimes what my purpose in life is going to be when my children are grown. I’ll have grandchildren to teach/influence. So that’s nice to know. “But if from thence thou shalt seek the Lord thy God, thou shalt find him, if thou seek him with all thy heart and with all thy soul. When thou art in tribulation, and all these things are come upon thee, even in the latter days, if thou turn to the Lord thy God, and shalt be obedient unto his voice: (For the Lord thy God is a merciful God) he will not forsake thee.” Deut. 4:29-31 Deuteronomy 6 Here is one of my favorite passages that God showed me when my husband and I were praying about what to do for school for the children, and this is how God told us he wanted us to homeschool. Probably the same way some people know God is calling them to the missions field or something, when they read certain passages and you get that nudge from the Holy Spirit for your life personally. At the time I was blown away by this passage and knew God was telling me his plan for my life. I didn't know then that it is famous among homeschoolers. I didn't know it is called the “The Shema.” I just knew God was telling me to homeschool: “Hear O Israel, the Lord our God is one Lord: and thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul and with all thy might. And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart: And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up. And thou shalt bind them for a sign upon thine hand, and they shall be as frontlets between thine eyes. And thou shalt write them upon the posts of thy house, and on thy gates.” Deuteronomy 6:4-9 So there’s the Shema, then I noticed Jesus quoted this second verse later to Satan: “Then beware lest thou forget the Lord.” Deut 6:12 “Ye shall not tempt the Lord your God.” Deut 6:16 |
Deuteronomy 8
“Beware that thou forget not the Lord thy God, in not keeping his commandments, and his judgments, and his statutes, which I command thee this day…. Then thine heart be lifted up, and thou forget the Lord thy God…But thou shalt remember the Lord they God; for it is He that giveth thee power to get wealth.” Deuteronomy 8:11, 14, 18 Deuteronomy 17 "Ye shall not do after all the things that we do here this day, every man whatsoever is right in his own eyes.” Deut. 12:8 “And it shall be, when he sitteth upon the throne of his kingdom, that he shall write him a copy of this law in a book out of that which is before the priests the Levites: and it shall be with him, and he shall read therein all the days of his life: that he may learn to fear the Lord his God, to keep all the words of this law and these statutes, and do them; that his heart be not lifted up above his brethren, and that he turn not aside from the commandment, to the right hand, or to the left; to the end that he may prolong his days in his kingdom, he, and his children, in the midst of Israel. Deut. 17:18-20 Deuteronomy 20 “Hear O Israel, ye approach this day unto battle against your enemies; let not your hearts faint, fear not, and do not tremble, neither be ye terrified because of them; for the Lord your God is he that goeth with you, to fight for you against your enemies, to save you.” Deut. 20:3-4 I especially appreciate that last one when my husband is deployed for the military. Deuteronomy 30 “Turn unto the Lord thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul. For this commandment which I command thee this day, it is not hidden from thee, neither is it far off.” Deut. 30:10-11 Deuteronomy 32 “Set your hearts unto all the words which I testify among you this day, which ye shall command your children to observe to do, all the words of this law. For it is not a vain thing for you, because it is your life.” Deut. 32:46-47 |
